In it's ongoing continuing efforts to improve environmental sustainability in the shellfish industry, Prince Edward Aqua Farms is developing AquaGrow - a nutrient rich, natural and organic soil amendment.
AquaGrow is collected from the waste stream of the mussel processing line, and these sediments consist of metabolic wastes of the mussel and small biofouling organisms that would normally be discharged into the local waters. Research is now being conducted on this rich organic material that contains macro and micro nutrients suitable for lawns, gardens, and organic production facilities.
Results of the research to date confirm the observations that AquaGrow is nutrient rich when applied to pasture and cereal plots since the extraction equipment was installed in the waste line by Prince Edward Aqua Farms. Collection and utilization of this material will have an immediate and positive impact on the water quality in the local waters.
